Surf Strider

The Strider is a 6″ plug that weighs in around 2oz.  It uses vmc 2/0 trebles on the belly and tail.  This plug is turned off center meaning it is oval shape instead of the traditional round plugs we are used to.  This gives it a wide profile on the water and a low center of gravity.  This plug can be used in variety of ways – first as a traditional ‘walk the dog’ style surface plug.  The secondary uses involve getting it to work underwater – and there is a learning curve with this.  Stop the retrieve and lay your line on the water with a low rod tip and then start to retrieve – if the nose catches the water surface it’ll go under and will run like a shallow darter – or twitch it and it will dart back and forth – but as soon as you stop it will come right back to the surface.   I also love this plug when I’m catching Blues out of the kayak.  I remove the belly hook and just skim it along the surface.  The plug size is perfect as a handle – which allows for an easy release.   As I said – there’s a learning curve but once you figure it out – these are very versatile plugs.
